PROFILE OF DR               JONATHAN BONOPHA TENGBE

1.           General
Please allow me to announce my Candidature for the position of Flagbearer of our great SLPP and to seek your support in the forthcoming Flagbearer Elections.

I am a registered member and Grand Chief Parton of the SLPP UK/IRELAND branch and registered Chief Patron of SLPP National Secretariat. I am a firm believer in the ‘One Country, One People philosophy’. I am committed to demonstrating the highest level of accountability, commitment, integrity and reliability as your FLAGBEARER

My involvement in activities pertaining to the SLPP dates back to 1977, as a student in Sierra Leone, during the one-party APC government of Siaka Steven. Although SLPP was not functional at that time, our resistance was based on the “One country, One People” principle of our beloved party, the SLPP. I have been loyal and continue to be in a quest to defend and subscribe fully to the principles and values of the party.

I fervently believe that as Flagbearer of the party and President of Sierra Leone,  I will do my best to promote the interests of the party at all times and  work with everyone to ensure that we achieve the ultimate  goal of winning the elections and coming back to Power in 2017 with a view to developing  our Country.

Given the opportunity, I will use my knowledge, skills and experience to compliment my love for and commitment to our party and country Sierra Leone, ensuring that we work together for The SLPP to come back to power. This is an appeal for you to support me to develop our party and our Country.

2.           My Vision for Sierra Leone:
My vision for Sierra Leone is to harness the Country’s human capital and natural resources to transform Sierra Leone into an emerging economy within 5-10 years. This will be done through:

  • Integrated infrastructure, economic and social development
  • Integrated Human Capital Development, through improved  Education and  Healthcare systems
  • Sustainable mining development
  • Integrated agricultural development
  • Low-cost Housing development
  • Empowering women and the youths in Sierra Leone
The overall implementation will be done through a coordinated 5-10-year national development plan, and my track record will support the leadership role required to achieve this vision for Sierra Leone.

3.                     Commitments to the party:

·         From 2008 to Date, I have made direct contribution of funds to the party in UK and Sierra Leone to ensure our Party returns to power

·          From 2010 to 2011, I was the Leader and Coordinator of the Campaign Winning Team (CWT) that conducted a sensitisation tour/campaign for a free, fair, and transparent flag bearer election in SLPP. Under my Leadership, the Team demonstrated accountability and Transparency in the management of funds secured through donations and reported back on our activities. Moreover, various Campaign Strategies were developed in collaboration with the National Executive during that period

·         Defended the party in the media- both print and on-line Newspapers etc.

·         Contributed to policy and strategy development during my leadership as CWT Coordinator

·         Member of the SLPP UKI Media Campaign Committee that funded and coordinated various media campaign activities during the 2012 General Election

·         From 2012 to 2014, I successfully carried out the duty of Central Coordinator and Leader for the Movement for the Transformation of SLPP (MTS), working closely with the National Executive to position the Party as a formidable opposition to APC and a Party poised to take the mantle of Power in 2017. MTS is operating in the following Regions: Sierra Leone, UK, North America, Continental Europe and Rest of Africa. All the Regional Coordinators managing these regions reported to me.

  • Father’s Name: Late Rev. Tamba Michael Tengbe, formerly Principal of the Methodist Secondary School, Kailahun; Member of the Tengbe family, Kissi Kama chiefdom, Dia.
  • Mother’s Name: Mrs Sarah Mojama Tengbe (Quee): member of the Quee family, Lower Bambara Chiefdom, Panguma
  • Dr Jonathan Tengbe has four brothers and two sisters. Senior Brother is Dr Paul B Tengbe, Head of Geography Department, Fourah bay College, University of Sierra Leone.
  • 27 years of marriage to Mrs Hannah Tengbe (Lebbie from Ngiehun, Lower Bambara chiefdom) with a 20-year old son Bonopha Tengbe
8.           Membership to other Sierra Leonean organizations:

  • Member of the Kissi Descendants Union (2004 to date)
  • Member of the Kailahun District Union (2013 to date)
9.           Current Professional Position (March 2013 to Date):

·         Highway Expert and Area Manager for Qatar North and South at the Public Works Authority of the Government of Qatar. This involves Design and Project Management of multi-billion dollar projects across Qatar in preparation for the 2022 World Cup.

10.       Professional Positions held for the past 20 years:

  • Associate and Project Director with Parsons Brinckerhoff/Balfour Beatty, one of the largest Contracting/Consulting Civil Engineering Companies in the World (2005 to 2013)
  • European Union Consultant to the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (2012) as contracts Management Specialist: To train SLRA Engineers in contract administration of Major Highway Projects
  • European Union Consultant to the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (2008) as Claims Expert and advisor for the Freetown Conakry Highway Project and the Masiaka to Bo Highway Project:
  • Team Leader at Atkins Highways and Transportation Department in Cambridge, UK (2003 to 2005)
  • Contract Advisor for Department of Rural Roads in Lesotho, Southern Africa (1998 to 2003)
  • Chief Engineer Planning at the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) (1995 - 1998)
11.       Leadership Skills acquired:

I have excellent leadership skills as Project Director and Project Manager for major highway schemes and Team Leader with line management responsibilities through which a large number of infrastructure have been built across the world. As Project Director of the M25 J30 London Gateway Scheme, at peak periods I managed a staff level of 100 or more, ranging from Contractors, Sub-Consultants, and Technical Experts to CAD Technicians. At the Department of Rural Roads I managed a staff level of over 800 across four districts in Lesotho, where over 2000km of roads were constructed and routinely maintained.

In Sierra Leone I produced the development plans that covered the entire 72,000km highway network in Sierra Leone – the blue print I produced is currently been followed albeit at a very slow rate 

12.       Communication skills:

I routinely prepared and made presentations to external Clients such as: UK Highways Agency, DP World, European Union, World Bank and now the government of Qatar etc during the management of the various projects over the years. I have also prepared and chaired high level technical and business meetings, both in the UK and overseas. I have published research findings in both international and local company journals. I have specifically done publications in international journals and have attended and presented at various conferences on sustainable development, and have also done book reviews for the International journal for Environmental Planning and Management.

13.       Financial Management Skills:
I am certified by the Sierra Leone Institute of Public Administration and Management in the financial management of projects. This skill will be particularly useful in the efficient financial management at national level.

14.       Environmental management skills:

I have environmental management skills which are evident in my certification as a Chartered Environmentalist and PhD in Environmental Planning at the University of Stuttgart in Germany, specialised in the Sustainable Development of mining systems in Sierra Leone. This skill will be very important in negotiating mining contracts and harnessing our natural resources in a sustainable manner.
